How sharing responsibility enpowers your team and enriches your company

Us entrepreneurs often use the term baby when referring to our companies. Just like parents, we gave birth to our “baby”, nurtured it and watched it grow. While we grew some grey hairs along the way. And we also have difficulty trusting others with our baby. I mean: how can we know for sure that it will be well treated by others? Or even worse: what if they choose a different style of nurturing and completely change the direction we chose for it?

I think the feeling of having a “baby” is not only limited to parents and entrepreneurs.

How teamwork educates, inspires and gives you the ability to make a bigger impact

I just turned 25 when I started my first “real” job. New to fulltime working life and I learnt the importance of the feeling that you are part of a team.

The team I worked in consisted of 15 men and women in their 50's, 40's, 30's and me in my 20s. Some had children, others did not. Some were single and some happily married. Some had Dutch roots, some had foreign ones. From day 1 my team mates told me “If you have any questions, just ask”. That’s easy to say, but I soon realised it was deeply rooted…

How sharing your feelings can help you get your work done

Maybe it’s because March is Women’s History Month, because the political discussion in Holland is now focused on leadership or maybe it’s because I am running a team of new people. Whatever the reason, the past weeks I decided to look into the topic of leadership a bit more in detail and reflect on my own leadership style. What are my leadership values and how do I incorporate them in my Noorderwind team?

Terms such as trust, empathy, compassion, openness dominate today’s discussion about new leadership. These terms are associated with feminine leadership. Maybe that is why to me, being…

The 2019 Noorderwind Impact Report

It’s that time of year again. The time we crunch the numbers of Noorderwind’s impact. Just like last year we review how we brought innovations up to speed and the way we ran our business. Why we go through this hassle? Because we are on a mission: to better the world while leaving behind a positive footprint.

The results of the year are bundled, analyzed and food for thought on how we can improve in the upcoming year. …

Noorderwind’s Periodic Table of Transition

Somebody once asked me if I used to be a constructor in my previous life. I laughed in his face but actually thought: he might be right! In my spare time I renovate my own house and the houses of my friends, I reused all the wood of my terrace that needed to be replaced and turned it into benches and flower trays and turned old furniture pieces of our family home into bed frames and other accessories. Not bad for a girl that does NOT make a living from construction.

So you can imagine that I really liked one…

The newly edited Periodic Table of Transition

It has been quiet for a while now from my end. I published my last blog about our work in the field of circular economy almost 2,5 months ago. But there is a good explanation for this period of online silence: our offline work.

I’m taking you back to the beginning of September. Remember, that time when everybody came back from holiday and started their work back at the office. We took a different approach. Instead of the office we, both the Noorderwind crew and captains, moved elsewhere: an under-construction-farmhouse.

Surrounded by cows, farmland and a lot of green landscapes…

Noorderwind’s Periodic Table of Transition — Circular Economy

It is summer and I’m not on a holiday. I’m avoiding peak season holidays. This means I make the most of my free hours from work by taking long walks in the countryside and enjoying the sunny outside terraces in the city with my fellow peak-season-avoiders. While sitting on a sunny terrace last week I shared with a friend of mine that I was about to write a blog on one of the trending topics within sustainability: circular economy. Her immediate response: “Oh my god, did you see Trevor Noah’s recycling item on the Daily Show? How twisted is that?”
